This sounds reminiscent of porting to HP-UX. We overlayed the prompting though with an emulator written in Quick to act as if the prompts were coming from the original server (in this case VMS), to make the User Interface transparent to the Users. We built UX shell scripts and launched the jobs in batch with all the input parms.

We had done this more than one time. We converted from HP3000 and Images
to AIX or other UNIX platform and Oracle.
a. You have to change your pdl to and sql script for creating the
database.
b. Change your jobstrings from MPE to Unix
c. Unload your data until portable subfiles and load them into
Oracle with QTP
d. Transfer your pdl and make changes the files to a database
connect
e. Transfer your source codes and compile.
