Migration from Powerhouse MPE

Yikes, Sun?? What happens in a couple of years when Sun announces end of
life for Solaris?

Have you looked at Eloquence as a database to replace MPE's Image? It runs
on both Unix and Windows and PowerHouse is available on both platforms. But
I think you'll find that HP-UX is the preferred flavour of Unix. It also
runs on Linux but we the customers haven't yet convinced Cognos of the value
of supporting PowerHouse on Linux :-(

In a subsequent message you seem to indicate that there is some urgency to
migrate from MPE. What's the rush? You can still buy a new HP e3000 from HP
for another 6 weeks and support is available from HP until the end of 2006
and will likely be available from 3rd parties for quite a while after that.
The hardware is identical to the Unix boxes so there really isn't going to
be any shortage of spare parts for quite a while. If you have a reasonably
current MPE box at the end of 2006 then you've probably got at least another
5 years before the ice gets really thin -- that gives you nearly a decade! I
would hate to make a prediction today about what your choices will be in 10
years.

Regards,
JWP

Subject: Migration from Powerhouse MPE

Hello,

I wanted to have your inputs on strategy of doing
Powerhouse Migration to Sun Solaris.

a) Migrate Powerhouse Application to Solaris.
Powerhouse is available on Solaris

b) Rewrite Powerhouse to COBOL! (Licencing Powerhouse
is very expensive) - Should one at all have
Powerhouse even if it is an interim solution looking
into the fact that Powerhouse resources are scarce and
fast depleting.

Also when in future if Powerhouse Resources are
needed, they will not only be very expensive but very
rare!

Any other recommendations ?
