I sort of read the problem with an eye toward the concept of passing a file, ala XML for HTML output. I think the statement bears the current trend in developers to discuss screens in these terms. However, some of us older folk, might well take the idea of passing a file, to mean perhaps a table defined by a subdictionary, or something constructed in the Phd. Anyway, If this idea could be cleared up, it might go to helping understand where this person is, in terms of understanding of PH concepts/Web concepts, and how we might get entangled in the question.

Ohh, I'm going back for coffee now...

Hi all,

I may be wrong but I think the original question may have been aluding to whether you can generate the source code
from a compiled program if you have since mislaid the source. The answer to this question as far as I am aware is a
resounding NO.

Yes it did but has not been available for many years. We found that it was very difficult to maintain relative to the use customers got from it. Of course there were some people who loved it, but most didn't care one way or the other. We'd rather focus resources where they matter.

It's very difficult to translate a layout into efficient QDESIGN code. Note the word efficient. I suppose you could use AT options for every FIELD, but that's not efficient. Also, how do you handle ID association. The layout section in QDESIGN is not just layout, it's processing sequence and grouping as well. This is where Screen Painter really had problems.

Didn't the PowerHouse Paint utility do something similar. I don't know if it has been discontinued, but I remember using it to do the initial design for screens, but that was a few versions back and I don't recall seeing it in our present version(MPE 8.19C).

No, but if you're pre-paired to pay me $40 an hour (AUS) I'll make one for you in VB. Not a bad idea actually.

Hello all,

Is there any tool which can generate screen program in QDesign when the layout of the screen
is given as an input file(something similar to HTML code generation in frontpage)?
If no tool is available then i would like to know if this kind of thing is possible in powerhouse.
