Here is another $0.02.
For your statement, "No one stepped up to the plate."
Do you really think that the lack of response to this "challenge" is
indicative of those (other opportunities) successes; or rather,
indicative of the fact that once a tool is abandoned, there is no need
to continue participating in discussions of said tool?

Subject: Development tools (was Is PowerHouse DEAD?)
As I recall, the last time the "PowerHouse Dead?" debate went around,
someone asked for the sharing of success stories from
those who had moved from PowerHouse to other technologies and
had enjoyed the same range of opportunities and financial
reward in their new field as they had in the PowerHouse arena. No one
stepped up to the plate. Perhaps there are those who could share such
an experience, but I would regard them as the lucky exception rather
than the rule.
I think that Jon (Kvisli) hit the nail on the head in
mentioning the trend toward standardized off the shelf
packages. Combined with other factors, it seems that this
is resulting in the shrinkage of the custom application
development trade as a whole.
So - yes, the PH market is shrinking - but so is the market
for many tools. PH is a quality product. I expect that it will not go
away completely until the whole apps/dev
profession is significantly reduced as well.
(Just my 0.02)
