31 files/records, 1023 items.

So it says in my 710 (VMS) Qdesign manual, in the section on the file 
statement, at the end of "Retrieval Assumptions for delete record 
structures", before the examples.
It's unchanged in the 830C PDF.

It's cache & occurs that's 255.
