RDBMS Access

By now, I would have expected to see a full release of PH on a variant
of LINUX, with support for MySQL.
After all, the MPE people need somewhere to go, and soon perhaps the
HP-UX people, and then the AIX and OS/400 people. I guess OpenVMS will
be there for a while, but it is in a sort of limbo/twilight zone as far
as corporates are concerned.
An NT version already exists, and with Quick now available (pity it's
not yet semi-gui), it becomes usable. Especially since the NT hardware
has ramped up. Of course, we still have Microsoft issues to deal with..
The work done on PowerHouse Web is great, and this really does bring the
same rapid development environment and robustness to the web. This
coupled with a LINUX back and front end would be a hugely cost effective
solution. All those $$$'s saved on hardware and software could be spent
on Cognos BI tools and consulting services ;)
I understand the problem with choosing which LINUX variant - but I'm
sure Cognos knows which one is the most popular and likely to succeed
over time.
With .net and J2EE about to go head-to-head for application developer
attention, perhaps Cognos could set up PH for .net, or put PH into the
LINUX Open Source arena....and concentrate all their efforts on the real
money spinners, like the BI tools :)
But, who knows what's in the pipeline?
>From the Cognos website, you'd be hard pressed to know that PowerHouse
existed, and we're all starting to look like the guy in the picture -
looking behind and askance.
One thing is for sure, there are very few (none?) tools like PH out
there.
Regards
Neil

Hi
I noticed some people are using MS Sql.
Are you using an ODBC driver or is there a PH driver?
What is performance like?
Has anybody tried Interbase via an ODBC driver? (Now that it is no
longer supported directly).
Has anybody a recommendation for an economical (nay cost effective)
rdbms for use with PH.
Has anybody tried PH 8.41 on Windows2000 or NT, your comments please.
Thanks
