9 months ago we finished a migration path from HP3000/MPE/TurboImage to
HP9000/HP-UX/Oracle8i.
In general, we are very glad we did this move.

Main pros (mostly related to the database):
- MUCH easier, faster and SAFER database changes and management.
- Better transaction controll (COMMIT / ROLLBACK)
- Better possibilities for opimalizations using SQL / indexing
- Better dataconsistency using primary / foreign keys and contraints
- More consistent code moving central businesslogic from PH to stored
procs.
- Flexible interfaces and "global DEFINES" implemented as Oracle views.
- Easier access to techology experts (HW, OS and DB)

Main cons:
- QTP runs SLOW if ACCESS/LINK is not changed to SQL cursors.
- Basic unix print- and job management is rudimentary and poor compared to
MPE. Third party software will probably improve this, but we have not used
it.
- RDBMS requires more "thinking" from programmer related to transaction
management and query optimalizations. But pays off if done right.
