Hi  Dwight,

its generated from the $$ 'function', see below for how it works, in short,
the products use their own processid ( in this case Quiz - 17756 ) to form
the name of the .tmp file and the local directory ( $PWD, I think ) is used
to place it in.

$ echo $$
17737

$ quiz

Thanks Joe,

But I have one problem - quiz (as well as all others) fail and abort to the
prompt and I am unable to echo within the PH products. Do you know how the
variable gets set within PH? Is it a system call?

Thanks for your help.

Dwight

Hi Dwight,

the PH products set a variable PHTEMP to the area which will be used as the
temporary environment, outside the products 'echo $PHTEMP' returns nothing,
but inside, see below,

Does any one know what system call is made to acquire the path/directory for
phxxxx.tmp/quizsave.qzs etc.. under Powerhouse for Unix. I've been running
the SCO 733c6 version under Red Hat Linux successfully under versions 5.0
through 7.2. RH 7.3 just came out, and for some reason when I fire up
quiz,qtp,qshow or qdesign, I get "Filename too long (quizsave)". The full
path is '/home/richards/phxxxx.tmp/quizsave.qzs' Quick runs ok. I have a
support call into Red Hat but thought I might try here as well.
