This should contain the path of the temporary directory for the PowerHouse components to use. If you want to shorten the pathname, why not create a symbolic link from the root directory to /home/richards/phxxxx.tmp (call it something short like t1) then set PHTEMP to be /t1. Alternatively, there may be some setting for the RH shell to use longer pathnames, but I guess you need an RH expert to tell you if/how it can be done.
