Hi Tim,
With your defined item Quiz generates a data conversion error when it's
encounters an erroneous calculation with text in a numeric field, but
another error when determining the value of the defined item because the
condition could not be calculated.
In you third example you add another error because the report statement
can't process text in the numeric field either.

I have a quiz program that is generating 2 data conversion errors when it is
run.
I'm running QUIZ 8.19.C2
The data looks like this:

The dictionary element is X-NUMBER ZONED UNSIGNED SIZE 3
The quiz looks like this:
ACCESS FILE-A
REPORT X-NUMBER
GO
Data conversion errors: 1 (no problem)
But if you use the item in an element statement, and you don't even use it
or report it. It looks like this
ACCESS FILE-A
DEFINE HAVE-VALUE CHAR*1 IF X-NUMBER > 0
GO
Data conversion errors: 2 (what's up with that?)
Or if you do:
ACCESS FILE-A
DEFINE HAVE-VALUE CHAR*1 IF X-NUMBER > 0
REPORT X-NUMBER
GO
