Death of Powerhouse

Sitting up here in Canada, still employed by the only I.T. employer that
I've ever had, it's easy to be complacent about the discussion that's been
going on over the past few days. Before I go any further, it's necessary to
state that any opinions expressed in this communication are my own and do
not in any way represent my employer's viewpoints.

Some of the Microsoft vs Powerhouse debate reminds me of a tour that I
chaperoned from our local high school one day. We run Novell for our LAN
software and were in the process of trying to keep a MS Exchange server
running for our e-mail. Some of the students were quite enthusiastic about
Microsoft and were wondering why we would have Novell for our LAN server.
Well, at that time, we had spent several months sorting out the Exchange
server, including some expensive consultant time, and were still forced to
re-boot it about once a week. The Novell server, on the other hand, just
keeps on running ...

My own hope is that Powerhouse and the tools are around for many more years
to come - at least partially because it's a Canuck (Canadian) invention -
along with Insulin, the g-suit that fighter pilots wear and green garbage
bags!

Guy.
Only if YOU want it tobe!

Sometimes i just get tired of hearing how wondurful some of
this "new tools" are, and how terrible the old "legacy" tools are. Have yet
to hear that the new tools provide a better, more reliable, more economical
way to do a job. I hear how expensive they are to implement, how expensive
they are to maintain and in the long run how ureliable they are.

PowerHouse is not perfect but it is a great tool. Add to
that the current PowerHouse Web and you have a great way to expose all those
applications that have been so reliable to the WWW. You can click to PhWeb
all you want. Yes we do have to get our butts out of our comfortable chairs
and learn a little Java and a little JavaScript and HTML but you can be the
person that saves your company millions and in the end, end up with
something to serve your CUSTOMERS BETTER.

		just my opinion
