Question: Is there a way to convert PowerHouse code into any
other language?

Re-Writing PowerHouse into COBOL, ASP, Java, C++, etc (i.e. a 4GL to 3GL
conversion is like trading in your automatic transmission car with power
windows, doors, steering, brakes and climate control for a manual
transmission car with wind up windows and an AM radio! You may have a
faster, more powerful car but who cares if the speed limit hasn't changed
and you're into the easy life?
A sideways conversion (waste of money) to another 4GL (e.g. Forms, Forte,
Speedware, Progress, etc.) is time consuming with little benefit unless the
CIO is 'forcing' a common platform.
A progressive conversion to a so-called 5GL (OOP) could be justified in
future savings on maintenance and using the latest technology. E.g. Eiffel,
SmallTalk, etc.
Why makes these decisions anyway???

Blue

Hey Guy's (and Gal's)
Having just spent the last 12 mths using COBOL (and continuing,
shuddddderrrr), has anyone factored in the additional cost of maintenance,
of systems using other languages, into their change justification
assessment?
I was just looking at the CORE thingy and would like to see how much code
was needed to generate the comparable screens. The more code, the greater
the chance of logic bugs being added when trying to maintain the new code.
