Programmer Certification (Appearance of Knowledge)

I have little faith in these programs. It's not that I don't think they
are valuable to the individual. It gives them an advantage when selling
them selfs. I question its value to the hiring firm.
All it states is the individual was able to pass some basic examines.
What do you call a person who graduated last in his class from medical
school?
A doctor.
Also, it does not indicate the person has good coding practices, as this
conversation seems to be leaning towards.
Perhaps those of you with real experience for both sides of the
certification fence can speak up on this subject.
