Do any of you know the status of Compaq's efforts to obtain certification by
the US Gov't military empire and its contractors of OpenVMS as "DII COE"
compliant"?

For more info please see
http://www.openvms.compaq.com/solutions/government/coe/

My reading of this suggests that Compaq wanted the Gov't certification,
which, among other things, requires something like a 20 year commitment.
Either they got it before the HP merger and now HP has to deliver on the
commitment or HP sees some potential in a 20 year product line. It has also
been suggested that the port of OpenVMS to IA64 isn't such a big deal since
most of the tough grunt work was done moving from VAX to Alpha.

I wouldn't count OpenVMS out yet. But I wouldn't go out and buy a new one
today either, knowing who currently owns it.

Regards,
JWP
