Richard raises some good points...doesn't make them viable, just
good...]:-)
They bagged HP3000 and the MPE/iX 'ecosystem' <<after>> spending lotta
$$$. They were less than truthful to the 3000 world as to their
intentions....as recently as 2000 there were long-range documents, etc.
which contained the 3000 as a go-forward tool. I respect their
decision....
He repeats - I'd be particularly careful reading anything into anything
else.

So why would they spend all that money? HP is not the
devious sort. They plan to bag MPE (?) and said so to
the world. If they wanted to bag VMS they had the perfect opportunity.
It would not have been a big shock to anybody if they had announced it
when they acquired Compaq.
