Hi,
We went from 7.10E to 8.30Z1 (Z1 for powerhouse web issue) and had no major
glitches except the locking issues discussed here.
We encounter 2 other things
The way we enter time in this version is different. We used to type 7.3 for
7h30 but now we must type 730
And we lost the french version of the Powerhouse messages at the bottom of
the screen and the é in the menu are replaced by ? And so on.

The french messages should be fixed in the next release, there were some
character set conversion problems that we had in the build process that
should be resolved.

Running QTP V8.13D on AIX. The QTP has no commit statements and uses
serializable
CONSISTENCY transaction for every table accessed. Calling Oracle (V8.1.7)
stored procedure in very last request. If this fails e.g. constraint
violation
- then previous updates are still committed.
This QTP is usually run in a batched ksh script and tests $? after QTP
is invoked. This seems to think that QTP has worked fine even after stored
proceduree has failed. Is this a bug/feature?

Yes, We have experienced the same behavior. QTP only seems to check the
results of updating database record buffers, and will not detect an error
caused by call to an Oracle stored procedure. This applies independant of
what COMMIT frequency you have chosen. This is probably the only way QTP
can respond, since there will be no way of detecting that the stored proc
failed unless you choose to return some error-indicator from the procedure
yourself.
We have solved this by using av IN/OUT parameter that returning status
codes / error codes from the stored proc, and forcing qtp to terminate if
an error is detected. Se example:
COMMIT AT REQUEST
REQUEST DEMO_CALL_SP ON CALC ERROR TERMINATE RUN
temporary T_SP_STATUS_CODE integer signed size 2
temporary T_SP_ERROR integer UNSIGNED size 1
; Will be set negative by stored proc if error occurs in procedure
item T_SP_STATUS_CODE = 0
sql call <stored proc> &
( &
<other IN/OUT parameteres>, &
T_SP_STATUS_CODE in out &
)
; Detects error status returned from stored proc, and causes qtp to
terminate if error occured
item T_SP_ERROR = -1 if T_SP_STATUS_CODE < 0 else 0
NOTE that T_SP_ERROR is declared as UNSIGNED and will cause a conversion
error when assigened a negative value. Using ON CALC ERROR TERMINATE RUN,
this will terminate QTP. Combined with COMMIT AT REQUEST this will ROLLBACK
the whole request. Using COMMIT AT 1 TRANSACTION, only the transaction that
failed will be rolled back.
I addition to this, we also generate a readable error-message that is
written to a portable nodict subfile BEFORE terminating QTP. Since changes
to subfiles are NOT rolled back, this will give us a readable log of what
error that occured.

Try some of the QKGO execution time parameters, starting with expression
size.
I've not encountered a limit of exactly 1000, and you don't say what
platform you're on.
The VMS limit is 2k, most other platforms I believe are 32k - these limits
are absolute.

Hi,
You can get the cursor to appear at the end of existing data when the user
tries to change a field by doing "control/b" in the field.
However we did not want our users to have to do any special commands and you
can achieve the same result by doing the following in a modify procedure or

You set the first screen in QKGO to be the quick screen you want, and then
invoke Quick with the QKGO file, rather than the quick screen.

Hai,
After setting QKGO parameters(i.e execution time parameters, terminal buffer
etc), how to establish a link between that QKGO file and my QKS file.
Can anyone give the answer in step wise please?
Thanks & Regards

Hello Ganapathi
There is no link between the .qks file (source code) and QKGO. QKGO is
called when you run the compiled Quick program, the .qkc.
You would normally run a Powerhouse system with a qkgo file set up to cover
the interactive part of the screen system, and the link would be set up as a
logical in the login.com (VMS) or an environment variable in the .profile
(Unix). This would then apply by default when you run a single screen.
To run a menu system, you would call the qkgo file rather than the menu
screen, and the qkgo would be set up to call the menu as the first screen,
e.g.
quick auto=<qkgofilename>
You can set up other qkgo files with different characteristics to cater for
screens run in batch, for example, which might need to handle larger volumes
of data, and the batch job would run this special qkgo with "quick auto=",
with the first screen of the qkgo set to the batch screen name.
Chris and Daniel have already posted answers on editing, but in response to
someone else's query. You ask how to get to the end of the text - this is
exactly what control-B does.
regards
Merol
