I am running quiz on an hp9000 unix box (version 7.33.d3) currently
accessing a version 7.3.4 db installed locally. We want to move the db to a
remote sun box. We installed version 8.1.7 of oracle on the sun box and
exported/imported our old 7.3.4 db into that 8.1.7 environment. The new db
is a UTF8 database.

Locally on the hp9000 I can establish sqlplus connectivity to the remote
database without any oracle issues whatsoever. When I add the appropriate
changes to the dictionary file inorder to reference the location of the new
database I receive an oracle error message. (ora-3106 - Two-task
communication protocal error).

I have visted Oracles website and made note of several postings which
reference setting additional environment variables that relate to the NLS
language and characterset variables as well as the TWO_TASK environment
variable and the ORA_NLS32 variable. I have tried all of these settings and
still end up with the error. Does anyone out there know - Can I do what I
am trying to do - does the fact that the db is a UTF8 db prevent me from
doing this - postings state that I should be able to establish the remote
connection to a remote db but they haven't addressed whether or not the
characterset difference is an issue here.

Please let me know if you anyone has any comments.
