Nancy,
I plugged the file in just like a KSAM file and it worked like a charm.

Thanks for your help.

In all honesty, I have never even created a KSAM subfile. But, I have done
Powerhouse/COBOL on the e3000 since the late 1970's and am quite
comfortable that the file can be read and processed via keyed access in
COBOL as an indexed file(i.e. KSAM). Shouldn't take more than a few
minutes to throw something together to do that.

If you'd like, send me a copy of the file, and I'll be glad to throw
together a little demo that does the keyed access.

Thank you. The programmer is going to try it.
It sounds like you've tried it before. At least you sound more confident
than the others. Have you?

Nancy

Yes and yes.

Note the file characteristics of FAK (Fixed-length, ASCII, KSAM). For
COBOL programming purposes, it's just another KSAM file.

Subject: question on HP3000, Indexed Subfile, KSAM and COBOL

Here is a listf of an Indexed Subfile (Q U I Z (PowerHouse 8.19.C2))
T3433F90 644 230B FAK 1967 3999999 17 4096 7 *

We want to be able to access this file in a COBOL program using the index
that is defined in the subfile. Is this possible? Do we access it like we
would a Ksam file?

Thank you,
Nancy
