FW: Quick ending with no error

Hello Roger

I don't think errors in Quick screens run in batch get written to the log file
in VMS. I'm sure I've had to log on to customers' systems and run screens
interactively in order to find the error.

I'm thinking there might be a data access error. Since the screen is compiled on
one machine and run on another, do the new files physically exist, and in the
expected directory, or if the location uses a logical, does it exist within the
job?

regards
Merol

Does it work outside the DCL job?
If not have you tried using the debugger?

PH 7.10.G2, OpenVMS 7.1

I have a Quick program that runs in batch, and has been running reliably for
quite some time. Yesterday, I added one temporary item, two files, and an
internal procedure. Now, when the batch job runs Quick, this program exits
immediately with no error messages, only a "QUICK session completed"
message. There is an initialize procedure that does a setsystemval very
first thing to define a symbol. When the Quick program exits, the batch job
does a show symbol, and the symbol is not defined, which tells me it is not
even entering the initialize procedure.

The same changes were made to another Quick batch program that is almost
identical, and it worked fine. The only real difference is that the one
that doesn't work is compiled on one machine, and run on another. If I
comment out the changes, and recompile, it works fine again.

The program is too large to include here, I'm just hoping someone out there
has seen this problem before, and already knows what might be causing it.
If not, I'll try Cognos support.

Thanks,

Roger Kesterson
