G'day Adam

Question: WHY?

Response: there is a consultant in California who posted some messages on
the PowerHouse new group on the Cognos web site who said he had about 60
customers running PowerHouse 7.?? on Linux quite successfully. He used the
SCO version with virtually no modifications. He also said he was having
some problems with the 8.?? version on Linux but expected to work them out.

Cognos does NOT support this install and this consultant provides is own
support to his clients.

The only reason I can see why you would want to make such a move is that U
of Sydney must be hard up for money. 64 bit to 32 bit, alpha to Intel,
performance and reliability wise it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Why not go Windows NT and PowerHouse Web or Axiant 3.0?

Good luck,
Blue

  Subject: Changing Operation systems

We have Powerhouse ver 8.13d, with Interbase 4 as the database running on
Compaq Tru64 ver4.0f (on an Alpha box).

We are looking at moving to Interbase 6 or Sybase, updating our version of
PowerHouse and moving to another operating system.

We know that Interbase 6 or Sybase will run on Linux.

  My question is:
Is anyone running Powerhouse on Linux? (will it run there?)
Any comments on its performance etc.?
Which version and flavour of linux would be recommended? (we have RedHat
already.)

  Thanks
