Need suggestions for importing/exporting data or Programmer's duct tape

One tool which I've recently begun to become familiar with that could be of
some help is Microsoft's Data Transformation Service (DTS). It is provided
as a part of the MSDE/SQL Server environment which comes with Visual Studio
(Visual C++, Visual Basic, etc) and with Microsoft Office Developer's Kit.
While at first glance it appears to apply to SQL Server databases, it can
literally be used to copy and/or transform data to and from (almost) any
source: flat files, SQL, ODBC sources, etc. There is a wizard that will
construct a wide variety of transformations and allows for plugging in VB
code or other scripting code to manage data selection/transformation.

I would guess that theoretically, if you have Samba running on the e3000,
you can use DTS to get the data from the PC to the HP and get it back from
the HP into your Access database. You can probably also have it submit the
HP job to do the HP side of the processing by using FTP.

I'm trying to automate a process that doesn't, so far, work well manually.

I have an Excel file, which I need to export to a flat file, move to HP, Put
into Quiz Subfiles, compare to TurboImage data, Get out a Quiz subfile (of
both the original subfile and now TurboImage data) , move back to desktop,
output to Access.

I'm pretty good with the PH parts and I can get to the 2nd subfile stage
pretty well, BUT, I need to automate the whole process so a USER can do it
on demand with little help from me.

I have the following tools Excel, Access, Powerhouse, MPEX. I have
Reflections, but cannot guarantee the user will, most of our users have
Minisoft. We also have FTP to and from the HP. I'm able to write simple
dos-type bat jobs. VB Scripts in Access and Excel would be a possibility,
but I've never written one.

I also have a grand total of $0.00 to spend in new software to simplify the
process.

Any suggestions are welcome.
