Hi Adam,

my understanding is that while Interbase is no longer supported, Powerhouse
8.13.D and higher running against Interbase is supported, and that all
information we have on file will be available to you as a supported
customer.

I hope that the following environment details for Powerhouse and database
access may be helpful to you.

The PH 8.23.D line ( latest on tru64 ) was built with the same versions of
both Interbase and Oracle as the PH 8.13.D line, in addition to Oracle 8i,
Sybase SQL Server 11.1.1 and Sybase Open Client 11.1.1.

Also, both PH 8.23.D and PH 8.13.D are supported with Informix c-isam
indexed files.

The PH 8.13.D line on tru64 was built with the environment below,

Digital UNIX 4.0

Informix C-ISAM 6.00UE1

InterBase V4.0M

Oracle Server 7.3.3

Sybase SQL Server 10.0.2

Sybase Open Client

DB-Library/C 10.0.3

Since it's release, 8.13.D has subsequently been tested with Oracle 8.
With respect to Tru64 5.0, the vendor has published claims of upward
compatibility.
With respect to Sybase 11 ( there is a comment which flags this as not yet
generally available ) the vendor has published claims of upward
compatibility.

If you do not have the source code for certain screens , qtp's etc then you
will not be able to migrate those objects to a later version of Powerhouse.

If you do not already have access to Interbase through your current PH
applications, then they will have to be modified/recompiled to run against
Interbase.

Perhaps you should consider using 8.13.D to get the data out of the
Interbase database and into subfiles, then move to a supported version of PH
and load the subfiles into a new supported data environment, for which you
might find there are both contracting skills and formal PowerHouse support
available.

Subject: New to coding with Powerhouse

Hi all.
I am new to coding with powerhouse, and have been told by management that
there is not much in the way of support available. (ie, I have to work most
of it out myself)

We have Powerhouse ver 8.13d, with Interbase 4 as the database running on
Compaq Tru64 ver4.0f (on an Alpha box).
I understand that Powerhouse is no longer supported on Interbase 4.

My questions are:

1) Are there people on this list that will be able to provide me with
assistance in this enviroment?

And IF SO:
2) Does anyone know if it is possible to talk to the Interbase 4 database
with some sort of connectivity.
ie. Apparently ODBC is NOT available for Interbase 4, but is available
for Interbase 6
so maybe there is a way with JAVA or other product
(I want to populate web pages directly from the database)

3) We are looking to move to a newer database (ie a later version of
Interbase or Sybase) but apparently the older version of Powerhouse will not
operate with the newer database.

One alternative would be to move to a later version of Powerhouse as well,
but I assume that there would be major changes required to the source code
to do this.( It is possible that not all the source code is available).

Any Comments on this.

Thanks
