No magic bullet, I'm afraid.

Careful use of set report limit can help identify the record.
Remember that defines are evaluated even on records rejected by selection
criteria.
Chop out chunks of code to identify the problem calculations.

This one comes up regularly, and would be an excellent enhancement: perhaps
a way to enable verbose reporting of full details of the records &
calculation in progress.

obvious which record or field it might be in. How can I find the records
