You can set the terminal line to not hangup when idle (default).
You can even set it to keep the session running when you lose the connection
(dangerous).

Better, depending what you want, is to create a dcl script (.com) containing
the necessary commands (qtp and whatever else) and any parm entries
required, and submit it to a queue.

$ submit myscript.com/noprint/queue=sys$batch

This will run in batch, and log all its output to a file for later review
(similar to " ... &").
You can then log out & leave it to it !
You can log back in later & check the log.
You can do error handling, you can synchronise with submitted jobs, etc etc.
Details are beyond the scope of this newsgroup - you should read the VMS DCL
manuals (paper or CD or at www.compaq.com ) and/or the online help.
