My buddy at DEC (nee Compact) said they were told that the project
to port VMS to Merced (or whatever they're calling it now) is still on and
to continue work on it. It's no guarantee, but at least they were not
immediately laid off.

Don't start celebrating yet Blue. If you read up on what Carly has been
doing at HP you will see that VMS will not last much longer.
Conrad, suggest that you have a browse of the HP3000-L archive and then
re-evaluate your expected tools/education requirement for users migrating
from MPE/iX to HP-UX. You might be surprised at how much you will have to
DOWNGRADE your expectations.
