PDL DATATYPE question

It is my understanding that the datatype on the ELEMENT serves to specify
the default physical type should you decide not to specify it on the ITEM.
And putting it on the ELEMENT serves to override the default that PowerHouse
would assign should you not specify it anywhere.
So yes, the ITEM datatype can override the ELEMENT datatype. As long as you
don't attempt to mix character and numeric data.
