PDL DATATYPE question

Having it on the element means that it will default to that for all Items
(especially if what you want is other than the normal default for your
element size and type). So, you don't even have to put a datatype option
on the Item statements, and it's centralised.
And yes, you can override the Element Default Datatype on the ITEM
statement. You may get warnings in some cases when doing this, and if the
types are completely incompatible, it might not allow it, but you can
usually override. A good example of this is FILLER, which may only have
default size 1 on the ELEMENT, but be any size you want on the ITEM
statements, and vary from item to item as needed.

Subject: PDL DATATYPE question
Is there any practical difference between having the DATATYPE option on the
ELEMENT and having it on the ITEM statements?
Can a DATATYPE option on the ITEM override one on the corresponding
element?
