Converting indexed subfiles from one format to another

I wrote a DCL/QTP utiltity to do this conversion on a VAX (the non-indexed
ones) but had to do all the indexed subfiles manually. Cognos has, as
normal lately, "left this as an exercise for the reader". I'm sure dozens
of programmers have had to write this same conversion utility, over and
over again. I offered mine to Cognos for any other VAX users, but they did
nothing with it. <sigh>

Subject: Converting indexed subfiles from one format to another

We are an HP3000 site which is about to convert from Powerhouse version
7.29
to 8.19. We have a number of permanent indexed subfiles which need to be
converted to format 8. In the past we have used MPEX and a REPEAT...FOR
loop to use QTP and a programmatically-built QTP use file to rebuild the
subfile and rename the newly-created subfile back to the original. This
works fine for non-indexed subfiles but I know of no way to
programmatically
retrieve the index name so when I rebuild the subfile I have an index.

Anyone out there devised a way to convert indexed subfiles from one format
to another? Does Cognos have such a tool that I am not aware of?
