Image modification & PDL impact

Jeff,

It looks like your question was hijacked !!
I never imagined there were so many "Dennis Miller" wanna-be's on this list.

As we discussed on the telephone, the change in the Image dataset will only
affect processes that attempt to update that field. Quick, QTP and Quiz can
still read the data without encountering the infamous:
Actual key-index layout... error message.

I tested your circumstance with Quick. I found I am able to update the
record unless I attempt to change the field which has been made a key in
Image but isn't described as a key in the dictionary. I expect Qtp to
function in the same manner.

The biggest problem I find is that adding a record, possibly deleting as
well, with Quick or Qtp will fail.

Under these circumstances I suggest you change the dictionary and recompile
any compiled object that accesses the file in question.

Cheers,

/mc

Subject: Image modification & PDL impact

Mornin' all (at least is morning here),

I have a question, If I add an index to an existing dataset in image, do I
have
to add the same index in my PDL? We are working on a solution that may run
better with these additional keys but don't want to change everything in
case
the speed is not increased or in the event the user doesn't like what we
have
done (how RUDE!). I get this feeling in my gut that if I don't add the
keys,
any PowerHouse process attempting to use the dataset in question will fail
even
though they would not be using the new keys (not a good thing)!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff Keepers
