Hi Joan,
I can get you part way, I find the code below works, alas the value ' ' is
written to the file. If you find out how to write out a space please let me
know,
run command 'cmd /c "echo ' ' > d:\wednesday.txt"'

Subject: Axiant and Run Command
Hello All,
I am using Axiant 3.0 with SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2000.
I am having a difficult time within Axiant trying to execute RUN COMMAND on
Windows 2000. This task should be quite simple but it seems to be giving me
quite a bit of grief.
Here is the sequence of events I want to happen (but can't seem to get to
work).
1) Open or create a new file (.dat or .txt) - dynamically creating the
filename with each process
2) Write records to the new file (or pipe them in - which ever)
3) Run QTP using the new file as the parm file coming in.
We have converted our application from HP3000 & Powerhouse to the above
mentioned platform. We used to use the RUN COMMAND to execute MPE commands
to set up the file and write to it. So, one would think the same logic
should work except now we use the dos command equivalents.
This processing is happening within a Quick screen and works beautifully on
HP3000.
I have tried quite a number of things to this point. I have tried to do a
copy of a blank txt file to my new file but get an INVALID COMMAND message.
I have used XCOPY which seems to work but wants a prompt to determine if the
copy is a File or Directory. I have also tried to use ECHO to directly pipe
my parm into the new file or even to put a blank into the new file and
receive the same INVALID COMMAND message. The last one I have tried I took
directly from the email that Cognos support had given me. It looks like the
following:
run command "echo ' ' > d:\wednesday.txt"
When I execute this (substituting only the drive letter) I get the following
message:
Cannot find the file 'wednesday.txt'(or one of its
components). Make sure
the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available.
I have been working with Cognos on this and they don't seem to have any
problems. They are using NT 4.0 where I am using Windows 2000. Other than
that I thought all should work easily.
I would appreciate any assistance or ideas on this.
Thanks in advance.
