Well, the politically correct response is to always keep your dictionary
consistent with your database. Of course PowerHouse allows you do define
substructures in IMAGE even though IMAGE doesn't provide that.

We use the standard IMAGE intrinsics so actual updating of the media record
(all the cross linking information) is handled by IMAGE. However, QDESIGN
generates syntax based on whether an item is a key/index or not. If you add
indexes, make sure you provide the appropriate consistency checking.

Without trying it I can't be sure, but I don't believe that we require the
index to be in the dictionary. Of course don't go generating the database
with QUTIL.

It should be easy enough to create a small test database and do some
testing.

Mornin' all (at least is morning here),

I have a question, If I add an index to an existing dataset in image, do I
have
to add the same index in my PDL? We are working on a solution that may run
better with these additional keys but don't want to change everything in
case
the speed is not increased or in the event the user doesn't like what we
have
done (how RUDE!). I get this feeling in my gut that if I don't add the
keys,
any PowerHouse process attempting to use the dataset in question will fail
even
though they would not be using the new keys (not a good thing)!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff Keepers
