QTP Performance Issue

Hi Ken,

Well, in the particular QTP run in question, it could easily take quite a
bit longer (assuming a few things about the Run that I haven't gotten the
answer to yet.)

If the file being Output (updated) is also in the Access statement, QTP will
force a two pass process; all records read, then after all records are read,
re-read each one before you update it. That means each record needs to be
read twice and updated once. That's going to be slower than reading once
and writing once. How much slower on a flat file? I don't know.

I suspect something else is going on however. I don't think it would take 3
to 4 times longer normally to update it.

Is this really true? Can the locking and the updating of a flat file really
be that much slower than just creating a new subfile in QUIZ? Are we
talking twice as slow, 3 times, 4 times what? Anybody else with QUIZ vs.
QTP performance info.

Thanks,

Ken
