PDL ORGANIZATION statement on the HP3000

The PDL FILE statement requires the ORGANIZATION to determine the file type.
There is no default.
For IMAGE databases (FILE ORG DATABASE on MPE/iX), the assumed RECORD
ORGANIZATION is DETAIL. So if that's what you want, you don't need it. But
if you want to declare a MASTER you need ORG.
There are a few options that PowerHouse has that depend on the dataset type.
We also know that IMAGE masters have unique keys, so we can generate a
LOOKUP NOTON.
So the answer is no, you can't eliminate all the ORGANIZATIONs unless you
want all keyless detail datasets.

Subject: PDL ORGANIZATION statement on the HP3000
Am I correct in assuming that PowerHouse uses the RECORD statements:
ORGANIZATION AUTOMATIC
ORGANIZATION MASTER
ORGANIZATION DETAIL
only when QUTIL is used to CREATE a TurboImage data base?
I other words, if these statements are omitted in the dictionary source and
then
the dictionary is compiled afresh, will PowerHouse still function properly?
(Clearly the CREATE/NOCREATE and CAPACITY statements are not used at
run-time.)
I inherited a source for a PHD that omits the RECORD ORGANIZATION statements
for
several TurboImage datasets.
While I am asking, what about the FILE statements:
ORGANIZATION INDEXED
ORGANIZATION SEQUENTIAL
etc.
Are these needed at run time or only to CREATE one of these files?
Thanks
