PH & Oracle Intermedia Server

Hi Jon

I think we have "talked" about this before, but just to be sure I will
telle about the problems we got.

We are at the moment in the process of re-programming an old PH system into
Java. Parts of our programs are now Java programs and the rest PH. Our old
PH system uses Image and Allbase, so to being able to get the most reliable
data in both systems, we decided to let PH use Oracle as well - BUT it
never worked out. Somehow PH 8.19C3 on HP3000 didnt work with Oracle.
Suddenly database requests from QDESIGN went from 1-2 sec to 5-20 minutes!
Nobody was happy about it!
PH Canada said that an later PH upgrade would maybe fix it, but we never
got into that. We now are running programs that replicate between the
systems, and it works okay.
Maybe some Cognos´s guys on the list have something to add?

We are in the process of converting two large applications from
MPE/Image/PH to HP-UX/Oracle8i/PH. Omnidex for TurboImage have been used on
the MPE plattform for fast indexed text searces. We have looked at the
possibilities for using Oracle Intermedia Server as replacement for Omnidex
on the HP-UX plattform. However Oracle Intermedia Server seems to be using
Oracle spesific SQL syntax that PowerBuilder does not support.

Have anyone any experience (good or bad) from using PowerHouse with Oracle
Intermedia Server? Or with Omnidex for Oracle?
