Odette -
Use PDL, the dictionary compiler. You have it in 710 as well, but probably
have never used it. That screen system will be in 8.30... but we're still
working on it.
Go into QSHOW in 7.10 -
set lang pdl
generate all
(If you use security then SET SECURITY first!)
exit
This will create a qshogen.pdl file which is your dictionary syntax that
will go into the PDL compiler. Add a create dictionary command as the first
line (or type it in manually in PDL) and a LOAD as the last line and feed it
through PDL in 8.20.
One note - there are a couple of things you will have to change for 8.20
(we've tried to resolve most of these for 8.30). If you aren't using the
Metacharacter section of the system options - just remove it from the
generated list as there are a few things in there that are different in 8.20
and won't parse. Remove Dictionary Owner and Dictionary Security from the
System Options. Change any RDB/VMS file types to just RDB.
There may be other things that won't parse, but those are the most obvious
that I can think of. You may get a number of warnings on the Elements.
They are just warnings, and shouldn't pose any problems.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like a dumb question but anyways: In PH7.10F2 we were able to
maintain the dictionary via a screen. How do you maintain the dictionary in
version 8.20D now that the screen is no longer available? I'd like to
unload a record definition from the dictionary and reload it with the
enhancements. Can someone please tell me how this is possible with the
version on an Alpha system?
Thanks!
