Sounds like you've got a good team. I thought you were the manager!
We are utilising quiz with the Web screens. Most of our reporting is done
with Impromptu and IWR but for some complex reports we still need Quiz. The
web screen calls a DOS batch file (job stream) which sets the PHD variable
and calls quiz to run the report (see below). The resulting report is then
displayed to the user via a new browser window or printed as per user
choice. We could make the report more 'web' like by adding HTML tags as
part of the standard REPORT statement but we haven't had the need yet.
Contents of DOS batch file.
SET zztest=\\cognos-01\cognos shared\phweb\CorpCust
SET phd=\\cognos-01\cognos shared\phweb\phd.pdc
CALL QUIZ AUTO="%zztest%\cc_statement_print.qzs"
The selection criteria for the qui report (i.e. CHOOSE ... or SELECT IF ...)
is out in a TXT file and included in the Quiz source as a USE file.
One of the main problems we've had is the reliability of the PH Web
Dispatcher - it is not very tolerant of other programs on the same machine
and I have to regularly stop and restart the dispatcher to 'free' it up.
What is your experience?
Regards,
Blue

Hi Blue,
We have a total of 11 people in Administrative computing -- including the
manager. He's pretty hands on and good technically, but I don't know if
you'd
call him a 'developer'... but, in some situations, maybe you would... All
but 1
are proficient in PH -- Quiz, Quick, Qtp, and PDL (the 1 is our Java /
Javascript / PHP / perl / web graphics designer -- he helps us with the look
and
feel issues). Right now, we have 6 people, including myself and Jeanie,
doing
active PHWeb development. The remaining 3 developers (excluding Blair, the
manager) are in the middle of big project conversions where day-to-day work
is
keeping the system going; webification hasn't come into the plans for those
systems yet. As those projects wind down, each developer will probably take
on a
small web project or two.
All the PHWeb projects are active alongside the normal maintenance duties
(normally in PH applications) for the specific systems. We're finding that
we're
able to add new functionality using PHWeb, but it's rare where we convert
the
entire system over to the web -- The voting system you saw and the IP
database
that Jeanie is working on are the only two systems that are PHWeb-only (at
least
as far as the 'screen' component -- Quiz reports and Qtp runs are still
used...
we haven't found a good way to integrate those with the web processing yet).
