Method for determining transposition when comparing two numeric v alues

I am using Powerhouse QTP version 7.29.C8 and am looking for a way to
compare a numeric value entered on a screen (passed to a QTP process via a
Quick screen) to one stored in a file such that I can determine if the two
values are the same except for the transposition of some of the digits.  I
want to be able to equate, for example, "049123456" to "049213456" (note the
digits in the 4th and 5th positions are transposed in the second value).
Anyone out there devised a method for checking for transposition when
comparing two numeric values?  I know how to pass the values to QTP but need
help with the transposition checking piece.
