Question about the Quick SelectBox

Robert

I'm a little late catching up with this one.

Rather than trying to make the selectbox trigger char call a popup screen,
why not make the popup screen trigger call the selectbox. Does it really
matter which way round this works? You merely wanted consistency.

The former is difficult to make work at best (no obvious way I know of).

Nevertheless, FWIW - more often than not my selectbox's tend to be "on data"
so will come up as soon as the field is prompted. Still, if this is not what
you want, there's still a couple of points to note.

If you specify "selectbox on edit", then the selectbox will come up if the
user enters an incorrect value. I would expect that the char to call your
popup screens would be invalid, so if they enter "$" (your default if I
recall) rather than "#" in those selectbox fields, then you get what you
want. Note of course you'll get an "entry isn't acceptable" warning also.
Nasty, but perhaps a small price to pay.

One last thing...

There's often the complaint that if you do "selectbox on data", then when
editing a field with an existing value, the selectbox always starts in the
top selection, and you have to "re-select" the value that was already there
to affect "no change". To get around this you can add an extra value of ""
(null) with a caption "No change" as the first value, which will act as a
null entry, and retain an existing value...

Food for thought.

Regards
Dave
