Wanted: tool for editing PDL (non VMS)

Thanks Conrad, I hadn't thought of using Axiant 3.0 as a PDL editor.
Unfortunately my current client doesn't have Axiant and I doubt will spend
USD900 plus tax on it for the occasional PDL editing. I don't think using
my beta copy would be right either.

I'm sure glad you have thick skin given the response so far. I'm starting to
think PH developers (like VMS fans) are just a bunch of middle aged grumpy
men these days.

I am learning Java so maybe this is a project to practise on.

Thanks for the text editor Art. I was really after a tool that was purpose
designed for the task. But on the subject of 'share ware' tools, I have
found the BEST MS Windows text editior in my experience for source code is
TextPad from www.textpad.com. A really GOOD SQL tool is Toad from
www.toadsoft.com is anyone's interested.

Regards to all you grumpy old men ;),

Blue

Haven't you considered using the new Axiant 4GL 3.0??? You can import
your
existing PDL and then maintain and enhance all of your data definitions
in a
Windows-based environment. You can then generate your PDL source file
from
Axiant and copy it (ftp?) to your UNIX box and compile under PDL
(assuming
you don't have client access enabled for your PowerHouse 4GL server,
where
you could compile the PDL directly from the Axiant desktop). Easy!

And you don't have to use Axiant for all your PowerHouse development --
but
even as a data dictionary maintenance tool its way better than vi or
emacs
(my personal opinion)...and now only US$895 per developer (in North
America)
from your friendly Cognos sales rep :-)

</plug>

OK...advertisement over :-)

Best regards,
Conrad

G'day all

I am in the process of creating a new PHD from scratch on a UNIX
machine. The type and cut&paste is driving me crazy after using the
OpenVMS PHD tools.

Does anyone know of a GUI (MS Windows) tool to create/maintain PDL
source? Something written in VB or Java perhaps?
