G'day Dave

Create a FDL file that describes your subfile as variable length. Then use
CONVERT/FDL=fdlfile subfile.sf datafile.dat. You can create the FDL file by
ANALYSE/RMS/FDL subfile.sf and then edit the resulting subfile.fdl with eve
(or whatever).

You can use ANALYSE/RMS on the file to check its attributtes after the
conversion.

Subject: Variable length subfiles.

Hello, fellow powerhouserites.

I need to create a pipe-delimited ascii file. It also needs to be
variable length. problem is, when I output a subfile in quiz, it
creates a fixed-length file. If I convert the file, VMS adds extra
spaces so the file is, essentially, still fixed-length. I think that I
can do it if I define the file in the dictionary, but I'd like to avoid
this.

I'm using:
OpenVMS V6.2-1H3
PowerHouse 8.10.C2

Any suggestions/ideas?
