Mystery record?

Hi Janet,
I haven't really been following this thread, but I've been there many times
before. As Neil said, Quiz has been on MPE/ix for a long, long time. And
this situation is so significant many, many others would have reported it if
it was a newly introduced bug in Quiz, so I'd say there is virtually no
chance of it being a problem with Quiz. Whatever is causing the problem,
Quiz is seeing two records. So let me run down the "standard list" of
things I've seen in this situation.
1. a file equation
This one can be trickier than it looks. Do a show file in QShow and see
EXACTLY how the open name is listed. If it's listed CONTROL.PUB that's
different than CONTROL. (i.e. FILE CONTROL=CONTROL.X vs.. FILE CONTROL.PUB
= CONTROL.Y) If Control is in a database, check the open name of the
database. Again, looking carefully at how fully the name is qualified. Is it
just base, or base.group, or base.group.account? The file equations are all
different.
2. a temporary file
This is the one that I keep forgetting. Do a LISTFTEMP @.@.@ and make
sure some process hasn't created a temporary file called CONTROL. MPE will
always open a temporary file before a permanent one. This might even be
something created by a logon UDC or your Quiz UDC.
3. two identical records in the file
I know you've probably checked this one, but do it again, just to be sure.
And use every tool you can to test it with; Query, Quiz (oh, you've done
that one already), Quick if you have it, etc.
4. delete the Control record
I know this sounds extreme, but that will tell you for sure if you are
looking at the right file. If Quiz now shows 1 record, you had a duplicate.
If you still show 2, you're looking at the wrong file. (Now, of course I'm
not suggesting you do this during production hours.) ;-)
Hope that helps,
Matt

Hello all,
I have done all the suggested tests and there are no abnormalities to be
found anywhere. I'm leaning toward it being a TPI problem... I'm not
familiar with using TPI's (Superdex) but it would seem to me that perhaps
there is some corruption in the Superdex "control block" or pointers or
whatever. Am hoping that rebuilding this "control block" (or pointers or
whatever :) will cure this enigma. What do yall think????
TIA again!
