Migrating from PH to Java / RDBMS

FWIW, a quick check on one of the main UK IT recruitment sites
(http://www.jobserve.com) shows 84 Powerhouse contract and permanent jobs
and 8434 Java jobs. To know where the shortage is you really need to know
the relative populations of PH and Java developers, and I wouldn't be
surprised to learn that self-styled Java programmers are 100 times more
numerous.
My own view is that the demand for PH skills is in decline (at least in the
contract market - the 84 jobs come down to 10, of which 3 are in Britain, 4
in Europe, and 2 aren't PH jobs at all, they just use the word
"powerhouse"). This is good news for PH employers, but bad for developers.
So I'm implementing a personal migration from PH to Java/RDBMS, and I can
confirm that the effort required is considerable.
