QTP as a system hog

For some files, I used Quiz to re-write a whole NM KSAM file to
one big, sorted subfile every night. Creation of this file at
night took no longer than 5 minutes tops for a 30MB file.
Since reporting accuracy to the previous day was the norm for
this organization, I'd write my QTP or Quiz against this subfile
and not the original KSAM (which was up to the second accurate.)
Since no one else would use this daily subfile, it competed
with no one, no locking strategy was necessary. It was also
pre-sorted on the field I wanted, since I was not using one
of the KSAM normal keyed fields. I could then perform a CHOOSE
where I couldn't before.

That's one of the features of PowerHouse -- it allows a junior programmer to
write a lousy program 10 times faster possible than in Cobol.
