PowerHouse licensing

G'day Conrad

Compaq doesn't manage the OpenVMS hobby license so why would Cognos handle a
PH one? DECUS handles the admin work and Montegar handles distribution. NO
support is provided.

Couldn't the CIUG handle the admin work in the PH case and a company such as
CCI handle distribution? Cognos would provide NO support, same as Compaq.

Sorry to have taken so long to bite on this on...I've been away for a
few
weeks (our Worldwide Sales Kickoff, and then the Software Development
2000
West Expo showing PowerHouse Web and Axiant 4GL 3.0 at the Compaq
Solutions
Alliance Partners Pavilion) and have spent all this week trying to catch
up
with the backlog.

At the moment Cognos has no plans for a hobby license for any of our
software. The costs of administering such a scheme through our current
systems (which are obviously geared to dealing with a very different
clientele) do not make this an economically viable option at the moment.

Don't be too despondent though. I hope to be able to announce some good
news
for one particular product very soon. Stay tuned!

Best regards,
Conrad

G'day all

Through DECUS, a member can get a free (post P&H) hobby license for
OpenVMS,
language compilers and a freeware/shareware CD of good software tools
and
applications.

To Cognos: Is it possible that through CIUG members could get a similar
deal for Cognos software, especially PowerHouse and Axiant?

I have a personal VaxStation 4000/VLC as a hobby machine. I would love
to
be able to run PowerHouse on it, especially with an Axiant front end.
This
way I can 'play' with the tools in my own time to learn more rather than
having to rely on a generous and understanding employer/client.

I picked up a HP 9000 box at an auction cheap as well. There are plenty
of
old machines around now that are affordable (<USD500) to 'hobby' users.

What do y'all think (I've been in Texas too long :) )?
