PDL -Help!!!!

Axiant can only do this via ODBC and I don't know that this is the way to
go. I suggest going with John's solution or looking at PowerHouse Architect.
PowerHouse Architect allows you to load the information from an IMAGE
database and then generate PDL.

Ok you nice Cognos people, can Axiant workbench 'read' metadata from an
Image database and output PDL??? I know it can do this for relational
databases and even ISAM files via ODBC.

If it can, this may be a reasonable 'low' cost solution to your issue Joyce.
Otherwise John P's method might work out best for you. Pressure Cognos for
an answer; it sounds like you are a new customer and that's good for Cognos.

Hi Robert,

Is you data already defined in an Image database?
Yes, its Image database.

Have you used PowerHouse before in your company?
No, this is the initial setup.

What other platforms do you have access to?
I'm using HP3000, operation system version mpeix 5.5 and
I'm using PH729C9 version of powerhouse.

How many data files and elements do you need to define in the dictionary?
Too much to count.....

How are you accessing the data at the moment?
We use Query, Suprtool and COBOL.

If you have access to a VMS box with PowerHouse, you can easily enter the
definitions in the PHD using the POW utility (PowerHouse Dictionary
Manager). Another option is to use PH Architect.

If you create your PHD on a VMS box you can then use QSHOW to create a new
PDL file. Copy this to your MPE box and compile.

If you don't have access to Architect or a VMS machine, maybe you could pay
someone else to create the PHD for you at a reasonable cost. Check out
Creative Computing at www.creatcomp.com if this idea works for you.

You don't specify what machine line you're using. The availability of
conversion tools will depend on this.

Here's what I'd do if it was an HP3000; if you're using a lesser machine
then you're on your own :-) Get a copy of ITOQ to create QDD source from the
Image root file(s). Then use the QDDTOPDL command file (it does a nicer job
than QSHOW) which should be included with the current version to convert the
QDD source to PDL source. I don't when the last time ITOQ was distributed
but you should still be able to get an unsupported version from your sales
rep or from somebody somewhere :-) This scenario will give you a good
starting point for a dictionary but I would still want to add in things like
picture clauses.
