You're close:

Access Part-file
Sort on Part
temp X num 4
item X subtotal INVENTORY reset at PART
sub B at Part keep include PART, X

This should give you one record per part with the subtotal for that part.
Note the SORT and the AT option on the SUBFILE.

Fellow PowerHouse users:

I was wondering if anyone could assist me with an "opportunity" I am
working on.  I am trying to total some values and report the output.  Sound
simple, but I am stuck.  Here is the logic I am working on :

   Access ...

   temp X num 4

   item X subtotal INVENTORY reset at PART

   sub B keep include PART, X ....

What I am looking for is the FINAL value of X for each part, not the
running total.

 I apologize in advance if this a bone head thing I am just not seeing.
