G'day all
I forgot to mention the Thursday night activities.
At 5:30PM, Cognos had a special reception to launch 'Enterprise BI'. It had
a Star Trek theme and everyone was previously issued with 'Jordy' glasses.
Sunnies with little blinking red link going back and forth. Not much in the
way of speeches but lots to eat and drink and a good band. Actors dressed
as clingons, borg, ferenghi and even humans were available to get our photos
(free) taken with.
After that we all headed off the universal Studios Islands of Adventure for
an evening sponsored by Creative Computing. We had the run of Marvel Super
Hero Island with the Incredible Hulk roller coaster, the faster I've seen
(wasn't it Nick?), Dr. Doom's Fear Fall, the Spiderman ride (my favourite)
and free arcade games. Lots of good food and drink was available. A really
great time was had by all. Thanks Creative Computing.
On Friday morning was the Cognos management Q&A session. Not too many
questions and it was over about 20 minutes early. I gave a presentation on
converting PowerHouse applications from one relational DB environment to
another and about 4 people turned up.
I had the opportunity to spen quite a bit of time with the Cognos ADT
management and senior analysts. I have to say they are a genuinely
friendly, concerned and motivated bunch of people. While they are around in
Cognos we have nothing to fear about PowerHouse's future.
I especially want to thank Bob Deskin, Allison Hamilton, Becky Smith, Nick
Falkingham and Conrad Whittall for their hospitallity and weathering my
teasing and nagging questions.
Viva la PowerHouse!
