Need a help on Screen entry

OK. Now I think I understand.
In entry mode, after entry of the date, check to see if this date is already
on file. If so then issue an error and ask the user to change to find mode
and retrieve the existing record. Use a select on the file so that only the
single record with the valid flag = Y is found. Change the valid flag on
this record to N and enter a new record with a Y in the valid flag. Ensure
that there is only one record per date with the valid flag set to Y.
How's that?
