Cognos Tier Licensing

I've just returned from holiday and see that there were no replies
to this message on the list.

Although I can't get into specific prices here -- that's something
that your Cognos account manager will gladly help with -- the
general approach to the HP 3000 "FOS-based" pricing (as we are
calling it) is to follow the model that HP themselves use to price
the Fundamental Operating Software (or FOS, hence the name) on the
HP 3000.

For PowerHouse that means that there are three variables used to
determine the cost of a PowerHouse 4GL license:

   1) The current HP-defined software tier of the HP 3000 server
that the software is required for...either 310, 330 or 340.

   2) The maximum number of users that the HP FOS is licensed for.
      This is either for 8, 20, 32, 40, 64, 100, 160, 256, 384 or
      an unlimited number of users.

   3) The capabilities required in the PowerHouse 4GL software,
such as full development, runtime with reporting, runtime
      only or reporting only.

For existing supported customers thinking of upgrading, and moving
to this new licensing scheme, there are generous rebates available
against the cost of these new licenses for your existing PowerHouse
tier-based license.

By way of example, a PowerHouse 4GL full development license for an
HP 3000 Series 918 (an HP Software Tier 310 machine) with the FOS
currently licensed for an 8-user maximum from HP would now cost
US$7,800. If this machine was later upgraded to an HP 3000 Series
928 server supporting the same maximum number of FOS users (also an
HP Software Tier 310 machine), and the PowerHouse software has been
continuously covered by a support and maintenance contract, then
there would be NO upgrade fee for the PowerHouse license...simply
an administration fee to cover the cost of upgrading our records
and issuing new software enables keys for the PowerHouse software.

I hope that this helps clarify how the FOS-based pricing works. If
you have any questions, or want further details of pricing for your
specific needs, please contact your local Cognos account manager.

Best regards,

Conrad

Does anyone know where I can find information on the new Tier Licensing
Cognos has gone to? I am getting ready to upgrade my 3000 and want to see
what kind of Licensing charges I maybe looking at. Any help would be
appreciated.
