The solution is of course to put the explicit SET REPORT DEVICE DISC in the
second report.  But why the difference between running interactively,
directly to batch or batch via CRON?  It seems Brian right in that CRON
resets the default output to its log.  Actually it goes into never never
land!  The mystery still exists as to why the output doesn't go to the
terminal but to disc when run interactively.
